Bauwerk Colour: Magento-to-Shopify Replatforming with UX, Performance & AI-Powered Search

Magento-to-Shopify replatforming, UI/UX and technical audits, storefront redesign, AI-powered search, performance optimization, and integration continuity for a global paint and coatings brand

Bauwerk Colour: Magento-to-Shopify Replatforming with UX, Performance & AI-Powered Search

Project Summary

Bauwerk Colour partnered with Elogic Commerce, a Shopify migration partner for established ecommerce brands, to replatform its storefront from Magento to Shopify while modernizing the customer experience, improving performance, and preserving its existing commerce ecosystem.

The project began with UI/UX and technical audits to identify customer-experience barriers, performance issues, and migration requirements before implementation. Rather than a like-for-like migration, Elogic used the replatforming to redesign the storefront around current customer needs and measurable KPIs, while keeping the ERP, PIM, payment, and shipping systems already supporting the business running throughout.

The transformation combined Shopify replatforming, UI/UX redesign, performance optimization, checkout improvements, product discovery enhancements, and AI-powered search, with success measured against agreed KPIs for checkout speed, conversion, order value, reliability, and migration integrity.

About the Client

Bauwerk Colour is a paint and coatings brand serving customers across multiple markets with a digitally driven ecommerce operation. Its products require considered purchasing decisions, making product presentation, navigation, search, and checkout central to the experience, while the storefront stays connected to the systems behind product information, operations, payments, and fulfillment.

This meant the migration had to address two layers at once: the customer experience and the integration architecture behind it. Elogic therefore treated the project as a broader commerce modernization rather than a platform-only migration.

Project Complexity

An established commerce ecosystem

ERP, PIM, payment, and shipping integrations were already part of the operation and needed to stay functional through the transition, not be replaced by it.

Migration with UX and performance objectives, not a lift-and-shift

Bauwerk Colour wanted to address customer-experience and performance issues as part of the same project, across desktop and mobile.

Checkout and search as measurable KPI areas

Checkout speed, error rates, and search’s contribution to acquisition needed to be tracked individually, not folded into one score.

Migration risk

The cutover needed to avoid data loss and prevent downtime across ERP, PIM, payment, and shipping connections.

Business Challenge

Bauwerk Colour needed to move away from its Magento storefront while preserving the operational systems already supporting ecommerce. A conventional lift-and-shift would have moved the storefront to Shopify without addressing the customer-experience and performance issues motivating the transformation, so Bauwerk Colour used the replatforming to reassess the full journey, from discovery and search through checkout.

The project centered on migrating to Shopify without disrupting the existing ecosystem, fixing UX and technical issues found through structured audits, improving checkout performance and reliability, raising conversion across desktop and mobile, and introducing AI-powered search, all while keeping ERP, PIM, payment, and shipping integrations running through cutover.

Elogic Commerce's Solution

UI/UX and Technical Audits

Elogic assessed the customer journey and technical architecture to identify friction across navigation, discovery, mobile, and checkout, separating what to retain from what to redesign on Shopify.

Magento-to-Shopify Replatforming

Elogic Commerce migrated the customer-facing commerce experience to Shopify, mapping existing functionality to the new architecture and rebuilding where necessary.

ERP, PIM, Payment, and Shipping Continuity

Elogic Commerce maintained the connections between Shopify and Bauwerk Colour’s existing business, product-data, payment, and fulfillment systems, allowing Shopify to become the new commerce layer without replacing them. The cutover resulted in zero integration downtime during and after migration.

Storefront UX/UI Redesign

Elogic Commerce redesigned navigation, product presentation, shopping flows, and conversion paths around the new Shopify storefront rather than copying the Magento site.

Performance and Checkout Optimization

Elogic Commerce achieved a 5x improvement in checkout page load time while cutting checkout errors by 38%.

Product Discovery and AI-Powered Search

Elogic Commerce improved search and discovery and implemented AI-powered search to help customers find relevant products more efficiently. The resulting search experience reached a 41% search-to-purchase rate.

Mobile Experience Optimization

The redesigned storefront treated mobile as its own journey, with mobile conversion increasing 24% compared with a 12% increase on desktop.

Ecommerce Data Migration and Cutover

Elogic Commerce migrated the required data to Shopify and validated the transition, completing cutover with zero critical data-loss incidents.

Results & Business Impact

Checkout Performance

Checkout page load time improved 5x, while checkout errors decreased by 38%, improving purchase-path reliability alongside the speed gains.

Conversion

Desktop conversion rate increased by 12% and mobile by 24% following the replatforming and UX modernization. Average order value increased by 8%.

Cart Abandonment

Cart abandonment decreased from 38% to 29%, a 9-percentage-point improvement following the replatforming and checkout optimization.

Product Discovery and Search

The new search experience reached a 41% search-to-purchase rate, while AI-powered search was followed by an increase of up to 20% in new customers.

Migration Continuity

The cutover produced zero critical data-loss incidents and zero integration downtime across ERP, PIM, payment, and shipping systems.

Commerce Architecture

Shopify became the customer-facing commerce platform while ERP, PIM, payment, and shipping remained part of the broader architecture, allowing Bauwerk Colour to modernize its storefront without replacing the systems already supporting its operations.

Best Fit For

Established Magento businesses considering a move to Shopify

Ecommerce brands with ERP, PIM, payment, or shipping integrations that must stay operational through migration

Businesses combining platform replatforming with UX/UI modernization

Magento stores where checkout performance and reliability are migration priorities

Ecommerce businesses where search and product discovery are important parts of the path to purchase

Businesses that want to use replatforming to address UX, performance, and conversion issues rather than perform a like-for-like migration

When This Solution Is a Good Fit

A Magento-to-Shopify replatforming works best as a broader modernization program, not a simple migration, when the existing storefront is connected to business-critical systems. A UI/UX audit identifies friction, while a technical audit establishes integration, performance, and migration requirements before implementation, so the new storefront is designed around current needs rather than legacy assumptions.

For lightly customized stores with minimal integration dependencies, a simpler migration may be sufficient. For established operations with complex integrations, an audit-led approach gives a more structured path forward.
