What is Customer-Specific Catalog?

A customer-specific catalog is a product assortment tailored to a particular B2B customer, account, contract, region, or business unit. It controls which products, categories, prices, and purchasing options each buyer is allowed to see and order.
A customer-specific catalog controls what an authenticated company is allowed or expected to buy. The assortment can reflect negotiated contracts, regulatory restrictions, region, brand authorization, industry, installed equipment, or a curated set of approved items. In B2B, hiding irrelevant products can be as important as showing the correct price.
Catalog rules may determine:
• Which products and categories a company or location can browse and order.
• Which variants, pack sizes, brands, or replacement products are eligible.
• Whether restricted or contract-only products appear in search and recommendations.
• Which price lists and quantity rules are associated with the assigned assortment.
Customer-specific catalogs improve usability and governance, especially for distributors and manufacturers with very large assortments. The implementation must apply consistently across navigation, search, quick order, APIs, feeds, and agent experiences. If a restricted product disappears from the website but remains available through search or an integration endpoint, the catalog rule is not truly enforced.
Example: A medical distributor can show one hospital only products approved under its contract while another customer sees a broader assortment, even though both accounts use the same storefront.
