What is Organic Traffic?

Organic Traffic

Organic traffic is the number of visitors, who clicked on a certain website after choosing it from multiple search results. In comparison with paid ads, organic traffic is free and is gained only with the help of users’ personal interactions and the similarity between keywords typed into the search engine and the information provided by websites.

The importance of organic traffic is crucial because users make their personal choice in favor of the specific website, therefore they are more likely to become customers in the future in comparison with those who came from a paid promo.

Difference between organic and other forms of traffic

Apart from paid and organic, there are different forms of traffic sources. They include:

  • Direct traffic, which relates to users, who typed the direct link to the website and thus were looking for it on purpose (for example, ebay.com or elogic.co)
  • Social traffic, a type of traffic similar to paid traffic with the difference in users coming from ads published in social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Referral traffic, that comes from a reference from another website or referral links of other people (bloggers, sales representatives, etc.)
  • Email traffic, which is a form of traffic generated with links attached to emails that redirect users to the website. This is also considered to be a form of email marketing

Ways to increase the website’s organic traffic

Relevant keywords

Another vital point to drive more visitors is your website’s keywords. When you have a product to offer you’ve got to make sure it can be easily found. So the good practice here is to conduct market research (for example, Google Analytics) to find out what keywords users prefer when looking for a product similar to yours. Thus you can gain a competitive advantage and attract more potential customers.

Easy to use website

When users click the link they would expect the website to load fast. If the process takes a lot of time they can lose their patience and go back to search results. So, if you want to maximize the amount of organic traffic for your business developing a fast and mobile-friendly website is a plus.
