BigCommerce B2B Edition 2026: Features, Limits & Tracker

Summary

Key takeaways

  • BigCommerce B2B Edition is not a separate commerce platform; it adds company accounts, buyer roles, quotes, purchase orders, invoice management, and a Buyer Portal to the core BigCommerce platform.
  • The platform covers 30 of 40 requirements in Elogic Commerce’s 2026 B2B Capability Index with generally available functionality, giving it particularly strong coverage for account management and payments.
  • Company accounts can support multiple buyers, custom permissions, and parent-child hierarchies of up to five levels.
  • BigCommerce B2B Edition is strongest for brands adding wholesale, manufacturers selling through dealers, and distributors with manageable numbers of contract price sets.
  • Pricing complexity is one of the main areas to validate because unique company pricing can create large numbers of customer groups and price lists.
  • Real-time ERP pricing is not native; merchants must synchronize prices into BigCommerce or build a separate pricing service when runtime calculation is required.
  • Quick ordering, CSV upload, shared shopping lists, reordering, RFQ, CPQ, purchase orders, net terms, and invoice payment cover many common B2B purchasing workflows.
  • More sophisticated procurement requirements such as PunchOut and EDI generally require partner integrations, while approvals based on budgets, amounts, or cost centers require custom development.
  • ERP integration should begin with explicit data ownership for customers, prices, stock, orders, invoices, credit, and shipments rather than simply choosing a connector.
  • The Buyer Portal can be used as a hosted product or customized from the open-source version, but custom forks require ongoing ownership when BigCommerce APIs change.

When this applies

This applies when a B2B manufacturer, distributor, wholesaler, or B2C/DTC brand wants SaaS commerce with stronger native B2B functionality than a standard storefront provides. It is particularly relevant for businesses that need company accounts, buyer roles, quotes, purchase orders, net terms, invoice self-service, dealer workflows, or multi-language B2B storefronts while avoiding the infrastructure and upgrade burden associated with more heavily customized platforms. It is also a strong candidate when ERP integration is important but the organization wants to keep the commerce layer relatively standards-based.

When this does not apply

This does not apply cleanly when the business has thousands of rapidly changing contract price sets, requires real-time ERP pricing on every transaction, depends heavily on PunchOut or EDI, or needs complex approval routing by budget, amount, department, or cost center. It is also a weaker fit for configure-to-order products with sophisticated rules or bills of materials. These requirements can still be implemented, but the additional pricing services, connectors, applications, and custom workflows can reduce the simplicity and TCO advantages that make BigCommerce attractive in the first place.

Checklist

  1. Map every company account, buyer, administrator, and purchasing role.
  2. Define parent-child company relationships and account hierarchy requirements.
  3. Count the number of customer-specific contract price sets you currently maintain.
  4. Decide how customer groups and price lists will represent those pricing structures.
  5. Test cascading price lists if the number of price lists could become difficult to manage.
  6. Determine whether synchronized pricing is sufficient or real-time ERP pricing is required.
  7. Document quick-order, CSV upload, reorder, shopping-list, RFQ, and CPQ requirements.
  8. Define buyer approvals and identify any rules that go beyond standard role-based approval.
  9. Confirm whether PunchOut, EDI, or other procurement integrations are required.
  10. Establish the system of record for accounts, prices, stock, orders, invoices, credit, and shipments.
  11. Choose between an ERP connector, iPaaS, or custom API integration based on actual B2B object coverage.
  12. Verify that required payment gateways work correctly with B2B Edition workflows.
  13. Decide whether the hosted Buyer Portal is sufficient or a custom fork is necessary.
  14. Test migration and integration flows with real buyer scenarios before launch.
  15. Assign ownership for B2B Edition API changes, portal updates, monitoring, and post-launch support.

Common pitfalls

  • Treating B2B Edition as a separate platform instead of understanding how it extends the core BigCommerce data model.
  • Designing company accounts before defining customer groups, catalogs, and pricing relationships.
  • Allowing one unique price list per customer to grow into an unmanageable pricing architecture.
  • Assuming BigCommerce will calculate complex ERP prices in real time without additional engineering.
  • Treating company credit limits as a complete accounts-receivable or credit-ledger system.
  • Expecting native approval workflows to handle complex budget, cost-center, or amount-based rules.
  • Assuming PunchOut and EDI are native features that require no external connector.
  • Choosing an ERP connector without checking whether it supports companies, invoices, quotes, and other B2B-specific objects.
  • Forking the Buyer Portal without assigning someone to maintain it through API changes and platform updates.
  • Planning AI-driven B2B purchasing before product data, account pricing, ERP synchronization, and core ordering workflows are reliable.

BigCommerce B2B Edition is the B2B layer of the BigCommerce platform, which Commerce.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMRC) owns. It adds company accounts, buyer roles, quotes, shared shopping lists, purchase orders, an invoice portal and a Buyer Portal. BigCommerce sells it with Performance contracts. In the Elogic Commerce BigCommerce B2B Capability Index 2026, 30 of 40 B2B requirements are generally available.

The Elogic Commerce verdict: BigCommerce B2B Edition is a strong fit for brands that add a wholesale channel, for manufacturers that sell through dealers with quotes, and for multi-language B2B in Europe. It is a conditional fit for distributors with thousands of contract prices and for buyers who need PunchOut, EDI or rule-based approvals.

  • 75% coverage. 30 of 40 B2B requirements are generally available. Accounts and payments score 100%. Pricing (57%) and ordering (50%) need the most checks.
  • 2026 is the busiest year. 11 of the 22 events in the Elogic Commerce release tracker happened in 2026.
  • One breaking change. Since May 3, 2026, quote APIs need a uuid and company creation needs a customerEmail. Custom Buyer Portals had to update.
  • B2B is the growth segment. B2B GMV grew 17% year over year in Q2 2026, against 14% for the whole platform.
  • The price is quote-based. Performance starts at $1,499 per month, billed annually. Elogic Commerce plans $150,000 to $400,000 for a B2B Edition build with ERP and PIM integration.

Most guides about BigCommerce B2B are out of date. Some still describe B2B Edition as a bundle of BigCommerce Enterprise and BundleB2B. Others miss every change of 2026. This page gives you three tools instead: the Capability Index, the release tracker and the fit guide. Elogic Commerce updates this page every month.

What is BigCommerce B2B Edition?

BigCommerce B2B Edition is a set of B2B features that runs on a BigCommerce store. It is not a separate platform. BigCommerce built it on BundleB2B, which it bought in April 2022. Today it adds company accounts, buyer roles, quotes, purchase orders, invoices and a self-service Buyer Portal to the core platform.

BigCommerce bought the quoting tool B2B Ninja in February 2022 and bought BundleB2B on April 26, 2022. Since then, B2B Edition is a first-party product. Guides that describe it as “Enterprise plus BundleB2B” with six pre-installed themes describe the 2021 product. Since May 2023, any Stencil theme can run B2B Edition.

On July 31, 2025, BigCommerce Holdings changed its name to Commerce.com, Inc. The product names did not change. BigCommerce, Feedonomics and Makeswift are now products of Commerce. For a general platform overview, read what BigCommerce is.

Is BigCommerce B2B or B2C?

BigCommerce serves both. The core platform has B2B basics, such as customer groups, price lists and bulk pricing. B2B Edition adds the account, quote, purchase order and invoice workflows that manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers need.

How B2B Edition works: the data model

In B2B Edition, a company account holds buyers, addresses and payment rules. Each buyer is a BigCommerce customer. Each company links to one customer group, and the customer group links to one price list. This chain sets prices and catalog access. Elogic Commerce recommends that you design this chain before you migrate data.

  1. A company is the business account. It holds users, addresses, payment settings and credit rules.
  2. Each company user is also a BigCommerce customer account (BigCommerce support).
  3. Each company links to one customer group. The group sets pricing, category access and tax zones.
  4. A price list that you assign to the customer group sets the account prices. Price lists override catalog prices and bulk pricing.
  5. Quotes, shopping lists and invoices live in B2B Edition. Orders live in BigCommerce, and B2B Edition keeps a matching order record (BigCommerce docs).
  6. The Buyer Portal is the storefront interface for all of this. You can use the hosted portal, or you can fork the open-source Buyer Portal on GitHub.
How BigCommerce resolves a B2B price from company account to catalog price

Figure 3. How BigCommerce resolves a B2B price. Source: Elogic Commerce.

This model has one important effect. Unique pricing for each company needs one customer group and one price list for that company. A distributor with 800 contract accounts can end up with 800 price lists. At Commerce Live 2026, the BigCommerce B2B product lead called this “price list explosion”. He described one merchant with more than 1,000 price lists that can go down to about 30 with one fallback level (BigCommerce). Cascading price lists provide this fallback. They are in open beta.

Company hierarchies add a second design decision. Account Hierarchy supports up to five levels of companies. Each company in the tree can keep its own customer group and payment methods. Users at upper levels can see and manage data in child companies. If your buyers need a custom self-service experience on top of this model, see B2B customer portal development.

BigCommerce B2B Capability Index 2026

The Elogic Commerce BigCommerce B2B Capability Index 2026 scores 40 requirements in 7 areas. 30 of 40 (75%) are generally available: 5 in the core platform and 25 in B2B Edition. 3 are in beta, alpha or on the roadmap. 4 need a partner, and 3 need custom work.

Use the index to scope a B2B Edition project and to find gaps before you sign. Coverage levels:

  • Core: the core BigCommerce platform supplies it. Some rows need the Performance plan.
  • B2B Edition: B2B Edition supplies it, and it is generally available (GA).
  • Pre-GA: it is in beta or alpha, or it is on the public roadmap.
  • Partner: an app, a connector or an iPaaS supplies it.
  • Custom: you must build it.

  • Accounts and payments are complete. All 10 requirements in these two areas are GA in B2B Edition.
  • Pricing depth is the main risk. Only 4 of 7 pricing requirements are GA. Real-time ERP pricing and SKU-level entitlements need custom work. Cascading price lists are still in beta.
  • Procurement needs partners. Only 4 of 8 ordering requirements are GA. PunchOut and EDI need partner connectors. Rule-based approvals need custom work.
  • Integration gaps closed between September 2025 and July 2026. One API token, B2B webhooks and company data in the Storefront GraphQL API all arrived in this period.
  • AI is not production-ready for B2B yet. The Purchase Order Agent was in alpha in May 2026. Plan AI features as a later phase.

What changed in 2026

2026 brought 11 of the 22 tracked events. Three changes matter most. First, webhooks and one API token make ERP sync event-driven. Second, cascading price lists attack the price list volume problem. Third, the May 3 API change shows that a forked Buyer Portal needs an owner for upgrades.

B2B webhook events you can use today

Phase 2 of B2B webhooks (March 19, 2026) added these events. Use them to sync quotes and admin assignments to your ERP or CRM without polling:

BigCommerce B2B in numbers: market signals for 2026

BigCommerce B2B is the growth segment of Commerce.com. In Q2 2026, GMV from B2B customers grew 17% year over year, against 14% for the whole platform. Commerce also reports higher win rates and higher gross retention in B2B. Total revenue was flat, so B2B now carries the growth story.

The Elogic Commerce reading of these signals

In the Q2 2026 call, Commerce said that B2B GMV has a smaller share of card payments. Fewer card payments mean less payment revenue for the platform. In August 2026, BigCommerce asked B2B merchants about invoicing, net terms and ERP reconciliation.

Elogic Commerce expects two effects. First, BigCommerce will keep its product investment on B2B, because B2B carries its growth. Second, BigCommerce will launch B2B payment products to close the payment revenue gap. Agree payment terms in your contract now, and keep the right to use your current payment provider.

BigCommerce B2B Edition pricing in 2026

BigCommerce B2B Edition has no public list price. BigCommerce sells it with a Performance contract, which starts at $1,499 per month, billed annually. Implementation is extra. Elogic Commerce plans $150,000 to $400,000 and 6 to 12 months for a B2B Edition build with ERP and PIM integration.

The signed contract sets the final price. Ask for one quote that shows these items as separate lines:

  • Performance platform fee and the included GMV
  • B2B Edition and Buyer Portal license
  • Additional storefronts
  • API and support entitlements
  • Overage terms
  • Renewal and price-change terms

This planning range is not a BigCommerce fee. A discovery phase replaces it with a real estimate for your scope.

One payment rule matters for B2B sellers on self-service plans. Since June 1, 2026, an Open Payment Provider Fee can apply to offline and purchase order payments on Core, Growth and Scale. Contracted Performance terms have no separate fee. See the full cost model in the BigCommerce pricing guide.

ERP integration: routes and data ownership

B2B Edition connects to ERPs through four routes: an ERP vendor connector, a partner connector, an iPaaS or a custom API integration. The ERP normally stays the system of record for accounts, prices, stock, invoices and credit. Elogic Commerce recommends that you define data ownership before you choose a connector.

Four integration routes

RouteUse it whenWatch for

In our experience, many integration failures start with unclear data ownership, not with the connector. The Commerce Integration Failure Atlas lists the common failure patterns.

Limits to check before you commit

The main BigCommerce B2B limits are price list volume, no runtime ERP pricing, spend limits instead of a credit ledger, role-based approvals, category-level catalog access and partner-based PunchOut and EDI. A forked Buyer Portal also needs an upgrade owner. Each limit has a workaround, and each workaround adds cost.

  1. Price list volume. Unique company pricing needs one customer group and one price list per company. Cascading price lists reduce the count, but they are in open beta.
  2. Real-time ERP pricing. B2B Edition does not call your ERP for prices at runtime. Sync prices into price lists, or build a pricing service.
  3. Credit is a spend limit. B2B Edition company credit limits the spend per order. It is not a credit ledger (BigCommerce docs). Keep balances and collections in the ERP.
  4. Gateway coverage. B2B Edition syncs only the gateways that have a checkout module. Some BigPay-only integrations do not sync (BigCommerce changelog). Check the supported gateway table.
  5. Approvals are role-based. Junior buyers submit and senior buyers approve. Rules by amount, budget or cost center need custom work.
  6. Catalog access is category-based. SKU-level visibility for each company needs custom rules.
  7. Procurement integrations need partners. PunchOut and EDI need partner connectors and tests with each buyer.
  8. A forked portal carries upgrade work. The May 3, 2026 API change broke custom portals that did not update. Assign an owner for upgrades.
  9. The admin will change. Commerce plans to unify B2B and B2C in one control panel and one storefront API layer. Expect changes to screens, APIs and training.

When B2B Edition fits, and when it does not

BigCommerce B2B Edition fits best when a brand adds a wholesale channel, when a manufacturer sells through dealers with quotes, and when a European business sells in several languages. It needs more checks for distributors with thousands of contract prices and for buyers who order through PunchOut, EDI or strict approval rules.

AI and agentic commerce for B2B on BigCommerce

For B2B, the near-term AI value on BigCommerce is in the back office, not in public AI shopping. The Purchase Order Agent reads emailed or PDF purchase orders and validates them. BigCommerce cites that 75% of B2B purchase orders still arrive by email or fax. The agent was in alpha in May 2026.

Commerce announced agentic commerce features in April 2026. Product data from Feedonomics can go to ChatGPT, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity. Agent checkout and on-site conversational search are also part of the plan.

B2B buyers see account prices, payment terms and approval rules. A product feed does not carry these. For this reason, public AI surfaces help B2B discovery more than B2B ordering.

The Purchase Order Agent extracts data from a purchase order. It validates the data against the catalog, customer pricing, stock and address books, and it suggests alternatives for items that are not available (BigCommerce). BigCommerce also cites manual PO processing costs of up to $500 per order.

Plan AI in two steps. First, fix product data and ERP sync. Second, pilot purchase order capture with one high-volume account. For the wider shift, read what agentic commerce is.

B2B Edition implementation checklist

Elogic Commerce uses these ten steps in B2B Edition discovery:

  1. List every company, user and role. Map them to B2B Edition roles.
  2. Count your contract price sets. Decide the customer group and price list model. If the count is high, test cascading price lists.
  3. Decide the Buyer Portal route: the hosted portal, or a fork that you own and upgrade.
  4. Write the data ownership table for each object before you choose a connector.
  5. Confirm that your payment gateway syncs to B2B Edition.
  6. Confirm the payment fees for purchase order and offline orders in your plan or contract.
  7. Define your approval rules. Mark the rules that need custom work.
  8. Migrate companies, users, addresses and price lists in test cycles.
  9. Test with real buyer scenarios: reorder, quote, purchase order payment and invoice payment.
  10. Subscribe to the B2B Edition update feed. Assign an owner for API changes.

Frequently asked questions

What is BigCommerce B2B Edition?

BigCommerce B2B Edition is the B2B layer of BigCommerce. It adds company accounts, buyer roles, quotes, shopping lists, purchase orders, an invoice portal and a Buyer Portal. It runs on a BigCommerce store. It is not a separate platform.

How much does BigCommerce B2B Edition cost?

BigCommerce does not publish a B2B Edition price. It sells B2B Edition with a Performance contract. Performance starts at $1,499 per month, billed annually. Implementation is a separate cost. Elogic Commerce plans $150,000 to $400,000 for a B2B Edition build with ERP and PIM integration.

Which BigCommerce plans include B2B Edition?

BigCommerce sells B2B Edition with Performance contracts. Performance was called Enterprise before June 1, 2026. Self-service plans include some B2B basics, such as customer groups on Growth and Scale, but not B2B Edition. Confirm eligibility in your quote.

Does BigCommerce B2B Edition integrate with NetSuite?

Yes. NetSuite has several connector options for BigCommerce, and some connectors sync B2B Edition companies, orders, quotes and invoices. Check which B2B objects each connector covers. Invoices and credit terms are the usual gaps.

What is the BigCommerce Buyer Portal?

The Buyer Portal is the self-service area of B2B Edition. Buyers manage orders, quotes, shopping lists, invoices, users and addresses there. You can use the hosted portal or fork the open-source portal on GitHub. Since August 2026, the portal interface ships in 12 languages.

What changed in BigCommerce B2B Edition in 2026?

B2B webhooks arrived in January and March. A breaking API change for quotes and company creation took effect on May 3. Plans got new names on June 1. Cascading price lists entered open beta in July. The Buyer Portal and B2B emails became translatable in August and September.

What are the downsides of BigCommerce for B2B?

The main limits are price list volume for account pricing, no runtime ERP pricing, role-based approvals, category-level catalog access and partner-based PunchOut and EDI. A forked Buyer Portal also needs an upgrade owner. Most limits have a workaround, but each workaround adds cost.

Is BigCommerce good for B2B?

Yes, for many B2B models. In the Elogic Commerce BigCommerce B2B Capability Index 2026, BigCommerce covers 30 of 40 B2B requirements with generally available features. It is strongest in account management, quoting and B2B payments. It needs extra work for complex contract pricing and for PunchOut and EDI.

Does BigCommerce B2B Edition support headless storefronts?

Yes. B2B Edition works with headless storefronts, including Catalyst, the headless framework that BigCommerce launched in February 2024. The Buyer Portal is open source, so developers can embed and extend it. Helix Linear runs a headless Catalyst storefront with B2B Edition.

Is BigCommerce still BigCommerce after the Commerce rebrand?

Yes. On July 31, 2025, BigCommerce Holdings became Commerce.com, Inc., and the ticker changed from BIGC to CMRC on August 1, 2025. BigCommerce stays the product name. Accounts, contracts and integrations did not change.
