Best PIM Software 2026: 12 Tools Compared

Short answer: The best PIM software in 2026 depends on catalog size, business-to-business (B2B) needs and budget. Elogic Commerce scored 12 PIM tools, and Akeneo leads with 78.3 out of 100. Choose Akeneo or Pimcore for open source control, Plytix for a fast start, and Salsify or Syndigo for retailer syndication.

This guide is for product, ecommerce and IT leaders at manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and multi-brand retailers with large catalogs. It helps them choose product information management (PIM) software. PIM software is also called a PIM system. Here, PIM means product information management, not privileged identity management.

Elogic Commerce scored 12 PIM tools on six published criteria. Each profile lists the best fit, the pricing model, strengths, one limit and the Elogic Commerce view. Elogic Commerce checked every fact on vendor sites on 14 October 2026. Each price carries its currency, billing basis and date.

Buyers who plan a PIM next to a B2B store can also read about B2B ecommerce development. The guide ends with a source of truth map, a cost table and a connector guide for Adobe Commerce, Shopify Plus and BigCommerce.

Disclosure: Elogic Commerce has a strategic partnership with Sales Layer and implements Akeneo, Pimcore and inRiver. Elogic Commerce evaluates the 12 tools and does not rank itself. Elogic Commerce applied the same six criteria to all 12 tools, including these four. Scores are editorial assessments of public vendor information, not guarantees of project results.

Key takeaways

  • Elogic Commerce scored 12 PIM tools out of 100. Akeneo scores 78.3, Pimcore 75.8 and Plytix 68.3 in the balanced profile.
  • Elogic Commerce found edition prices for Pimcore only: $9,900 (Professional) and $29,900 (Enterprise) a year, in USD as of October 2026.
  • Nine of 12 vendors name an AI feature or framework on their sites. Stibo Systems and Contentserv make AI claims without a named feature, and Catsy names none.
  • Three vendors show a deal on their own sites. Contentserv is now part of Centric Software (announced 25 February 2025), 1WorldSync is now part of Syndigo, and Salsify announced a sale to Cinven.
  • A PIM becomes the single source of truth when each field has one owner system. The enterprise resource planning (ERP) system owns price and stock, the PIM owns content, and digital asset management (DAM) owns files.
  • Elogic Commerce implements Akeneo, Pimcore and inRiver and partners with Sales Layer. Elogic Commerce projects start at $25,000, and the team has delivered 500+ projects since 2009.

What is PIM software?

PIM software, also called a PIM system, is product information management software that stores, enriches and distributes product data across all sales channels. Elogic Commerce checked 12 PIM tools on vendor sites on 14 October 2026. Choose a PIM when one catalog feeds several channels, languages or suppliers.

Product information management (PIM) covers both the process and the tool. The tool holds one record per product with attributes, descriptions, images, prices and channel rules. Elogic Commerce explains the term in the PIM glossary entry.

A PIM system does four jobs:

  • Collect: import data from suppliers, ERP systems and spreadsheets.
  • Enrich: add descriptions, translations, attributes and images, with AI help.
  • Govern: apply completeness rules, approvals and an audit trail.
  • Publish: send the record to storefronts, marketplaces and retailers.

Elogic Commerce treats clean attributes as the base for AI search and shopping agents. Read about machine-readable product data, AI product data enrichment and AI catalog enrichment.

How did Elogic Commerce evaluate the PIM tools?

Elogic Commerce evaluated each PIM tool with the Elogic Commerce PIM Selection Scorecard: six criteria, fixed weights and a 0 to 10 sub-score per criterion. B2B data depth carries the highest weight, 25 out of 100. Scores use vendor sites checked on 14 October 2026.

The scorecard has three weight profiles: balanced, enterprise B2B and small and mid-size business (SMB). Table 2 lists the criteria and the weights.

Table 2. The Elogic Commerce PIM Selection Scorecard: criteria and weights (each profile totals 100). Compiled by Elogic Commerce, October 2026.

Total score = the sum of (sub-score ÷ 10 × weight), with a maximum of 100. Elogic Commerce publishes all three profiles in Table 3. The balanced profile suits most mid-market buyers.

Each sub-score follows a written rubric. Elogic Commerce scores cost transparency 10 when every edition has a public price and a free edition exists. Pimcore scores 8 because Professional and Enterprise have public prices, Community Edition is free and the managed cloud is quoted.

Scores measure what each vendor documents in public. A vendor with thin public pages scores lower, even when the product is strong. Elogic Commerce does not score user reviews, support quality or ease of use in a live demo.

Elogic Commerce scores only tools with a public PIM product page and 2026 content. Elogic Commerce leaves out PIM modules inside commerce platforms and product feed tools.

What are the 12 best PIM software tools in 2026?

The 12 best PIM software tools in 2026 are Akeneo, Pimcore, Plytix, Salsify, Sales Layer, inRiver, Bluestone PIM, Syndigo, Pimberly, Stibo Systems, Catsy and Contentserv. Elogic Commerce lists them in balanced score order, from 78.3 to 50.8 out of 100.

Each profile follows the same order: best for, pricing model, strengths, limitation and the Elogic Commerce view. Prices are public prices only, as of October 2026.

1. Akeneo (score 78.3)

  • Pricing model: Not published. The Salsify homepage shows no price.
  • Strengths: Salsify groups its tools into product experience management (PXM), supplier experience management (SXM) and the PXM Network. Elogic Commerce view: Elogic Commerce scores Salsify 64.3 out of 100, and 76.0 in the enterprise B2B profile, where it ranks second behind Akeneo. Elogic Commerce recommends Salsify when retailer syndication matters more than price.

5. Sales Layer (score 63.3)

Premium adds the Translation Engine, AI enablement, Shopify and BigCommerce connectors. Enterprise adds workflows and attribute-level permissions.
  • Limitation: The pricing page lists an Adobe Commerce connector as an add-on on Premium. No plan shows a price.

Elogic Commerce view: Elogic Commerce has a strategic partnership with Sales Layer and scores it 63.3 out of 100. Elogic Commerce rates Sales Layer 7.5 out of 10 for time to launch. Read the partnership announcement.

8. Syndigo (score 59.5)

  • Best for: Brands and retailers that must meet retailer data rules and syndicate to many retailers.
  • Pricing model: Not published. The Syndigo homepage shows no price.

  • Limitation: 1WorldSync is now part of Syndigo, and the homepage gives no date. It lists no B2B feature set and no storefront connector.

Elogic Commerce view: Elogic Commerce scores Syndigo 59.5 out of 100. Syndigo earns 9.5 out of 10 for integration and syndication, the top score in that criterion. Elogic Commerce recommends Syndigo for brands that sell through large retailers.

  • Limitation: The homepage names no price and no storefront connector. Its proof is a testimonial, not a published study.

Elogic Commerce view: Elogic Commerce scores Pimberly 56.3 out of 100. Elogic Commerce rates its openness 7 out of 10 for the API first design. Ask for a connector list before shortlisting.

10. Stibo Systems (score 55.8)

  • Best for: Large enterprises that run master data across product, customer, supplier and location domains.
  • Pricing model: Not published on the press page Elogic Commerce checked.
  • Strengths: STEP is the Stibo Systems platform for enterprise master data management. Gartner named Stibo Systems a Leader in the 2026 Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management Solutions. Stibo Systems calls it a first-time recognition (press release, 9 April 2026). PIM sits under the Product Experience Data Cloud. Stibo Systems is a subsidiary of Stibo Software Group, under foundation ownership.
  • Limitation: No price and no storefront connector are public. The Gartner report covers master data management, not PIM alone.

Elogic Commerce view: Elogic Commerce scores Stibo Systems 55.8 out of 100. Stibo Systems earns 9.5 out of 10 for B2B data depth, the top score in that criterion. Elogic Commerce recommends Stibo Systems when product data is one of several master data domains.

Centric now lists PXM for industrial manufacturing and for FMCG and retail.
  • Limitation: Contentserv is now part of Centric Software, so ask for the product name and roadmap in writing. The Contentserv site names no price or storefront connector.

Elogic Commerce view: Elogic Commerce scores Contentserv 50.8 out of 100. The score reflects thin public detail after the Centric Software deal, not product quality. Elogic Commerce recommends a demo with Centric before shortlisting.

How do the 12 PIM tools compare?

The 12 PIM tools compare on six weighted criteria: B2B data depth, cost transparency, integration, AI enrichment, openness and time to launch. Elogic Commerce scores Akeneo 78.3 and Pimcore 75.8 out of 100 in the balanced profile, ahead of Plytix at 68.3. The enterprise B2B profile puts Salsify second, and the SMB profile puts Plytix first.

Table 4. Deals and analyst recognition stated on vendor pages. Compiled by Elogic Commerce, 14 October 2026.

The Gartner report covers MDM, not PIM alone. The IDC badges come from vendor homepages, not from IDC pages. Elogic Commerce names a recognition only when a vendor site or press page shows it.

An ownership change can alter roadmaps, price lists and support terms. Elogic Commerce recommends asking each vendor for its product plan and contract terms in writing.

How does a PIM create a single source of truth for product data?

A PIM becomes the single source of truth for product data when it holds one governed record per product. Elogic Commerce maps 6 data groups to one owner each: ERP for price and stock, PIM for content, DAM for files. Name the owner of every field before you choose a tool.

A source of truth is the system whose value wins when two systems disagree. Plytix describes a PIM as a single source of truth and system of record for product content. Read the glossary entry on system of record.

Table 5 shows the Elogic Commerce Source of Truth Map. Each data group has one owner system. Other systems read the value and do not edit it.

Data groupOwner systemRule
Item number, unit of measure, weight, dimensionsERPThe PIM receives the item master and does not edit it.
Price lists and customer pricesERP or pricing engineThe storefront reads price from the owner. The PIM holds no customer price.
Stock and availabilityERP or order management system (OMS)The storefront reads stock from the owner.
Descriptions, attributes, categories, translationsPIMEditors work in the PIM. Approvals run before publishing.
Images, video, manuals, spec sheetsDAM, or the DAM module of the PIMThe PIM links each asset to its product.
Channel rules and completeness checksPIMThe PIM blocks publishing when mandatory fields are empty.

Table 5. The Elogic Commerce Source of Truth Map: one owner system per data group. Compiled by Elogic Commerce, October 2026.[CAPTION: Figure 3. How product data flows from owner systems through the PIM to channels]

How product data flows from owner systems through the PIM to channels
Figure 3. How product data flows from owner systems through the PIM to channels. Compiled by Elogic Commerce, October 2026.

Four rules keep the PIM trusted:

  1. Give each field one owner system and one editor role.
  2. Send data one way: ERP to PIM for item data, PIM to the storefront for content.
  3. Block publishing when mandatory fields are empty.
  4. Keep an audit trail of every change.

Elogic Commerce builds these flows in systems integration projects with SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle NetSuite, Epicor and other ERP systems. For the terms, see ERP integration.

PIM vs ERP vs MDM vs DAM: what is the difference?

PIM, ERP, MDM and DAM differ by the data that each of the 4 systems owns. Elogic Commerce integrates PIM and ERP systems with Adobe Commerce, Shopify Plus and BigCommerce. A PIM owns selling content, an ERP owns orders, stock and prices, an MDM governs shared domains, and a DAM owns media files.

SystemOwnsTypical recordExamples in this guide

Table 6. PIM, ERP, MDM and DAM compared. Compiled by Elogic Commerce from vendor sites, October 2026.

Many tools overlap these systems. Pimcore, Syndigo and Stibo Systems list MDM next to PIM. Akeneo, Catsy and Pimberly list DAM next to PIM. See the glossary entry on DAM.

Elogic Commerce recommends the PIM as the product record that shoppers and buyers see. The ERP keeps the commercial record. Keep the two apart and connect them with a clear flow.

What does PIM software cost in 2026?

PIM software prices are mostly quote based. On 14 October 2026, Elogic Commerce could read list prices for Pimcore only: Professional costs $9,900 a year and Enterprise $29,900. Plytix shows its plan prices in an interactive calculator. Ask every other vendor for a written quote.

Table 7 lists what each vendor shows in public. The Akeneo packages page did not load on 14 October 2026, so Elogic Commerce lists Akeneo as not found.

Table 7. Public pricing for 12 PIM tools, as of October 2026. Compiled by Elogic Commerce from vendor pages checked on 14 October 2026.

Six items drive PIM cost:

  • Catalog size: the SKU count sets the plan at Plytix and Sales Layer.
  • Users and languages: Sales Layer limits users and languages per plan. Bluestone PIM prices by users, SKUs and languages.
  • Add-ons: Plytix charges 179 a month for each add-on, such as Feed Management or a Shopify connector. Sales Layer sells the Adobe Commerce connector as an add-on on Premium.
  • AI use: Plytix includes 500 free AI credits a month. AI Unlimited is a 179 a month add-on.
  • Hosting and support: Pimcore Professional and Enterprise prices exclude hosting. PaaS adds hosting and operations.
  • Integration work: Elogic Commerce projects start at $25,000, and hourly rates are $50 to $99 per hour (Clutch profile, September 2026).

Project cost depends on fields, languages, channels and ERP flows. A written scope comes before a quote.

How do you connect a PIM to Adobe Commerce (Magento), Shopify Plus or BigCommerce?

You connect a PIM to Adobe Commerce, Shopify Plus or BigCommerce through a connector, an app or the platform API. Elogic Commerce offers 3 integration options for Akeneo, Pimcore and inRiver on Adobe Commerce, and starts from a free connector. Map every field and sync a small batch first.

For the full Adobe Commerce method, read the Elogic Commerce guide to Magento PIM integration. This section adds the options, the rules and the steps.

Adobe Commerce (Magento): three integration options

The Elogic Commerce integration pages for Akeneo, Pimcore and inRiver describe the same three options:

  • Option 1, point-to-point: use the free connector from the Magento Marketplace or the PIM vendor. It costs least. The Elogic Commerce pages warn that it can need major changes later.
  • Option 2, connector plus customization: start from the free connector and tailor it to your fields and rules. Elogic Commerce recommends this option for Akeneo.
  • Option 3, pre-built third-party connector: buy a specialized connector. It starts fast but can add license cost and limit customization.

Elogic Commerce delivers these options through Adobe Commerce development. The team adds 2 months of complimentary support after release.

Five rules for a Magento PIM project

Elogic Commerce carries five rules over from its earlier Magento PIM guide:

  • Feed several storefronts from one PIM. Storefronts can share carts, sessions and payment gateways while they read product data from one source.
  • Connect the ERP to the PIM first. Do not route ERP data through Adobe Commerce to reach the PIM.
  • Name fields the same in the PIM and in Adobe Commerce. Matching names make mapping simpler.
  • Test the hardest content first: images, custom attributes, variants and localized fields.
  • Scale to the full catalog only after performance, governance and rollback pass tests.

Seven steps to connect a PIM to Adobe Commerce

The earlier Elogic Commerce guide lists seven steps:

  1. Import categories and products into the PIM.
  2. Run a field test to confirm that matching fields exist in Adobe Commerce.
  3. Create the PIM connection channel and align field names in both systems.
  4. Install the connector or extension.
  5. Test a few products end to end.
  6. Check the sync, especially images and custom attributes.
  7. Add the remaining products after the results pass.

Many vendors list more connectors in app stores or partner directories. Verify the connector, its version and its field coverage in discovery.

Elogic Commerce case: Armacell combined Adobe Commerce, SAP S/4HANA and a PIM. Elogic Commerce delivered the project: order approvals became 5 times faster and manual orders fell 40%. Read the Armacell case study.

How do you choose PIM software?

Choose PIM software with the Elogic Commerce PIM Selection Scorecard: set weights, score three tools from 0 to 10 and multiply. Elogic Commerce provides 3 starting weight profiles: balanced, enterprise B2B and SMB. Run a proof of concept on your hardest products before you sign.

Table 9 shows the three profiles and the top three tools in each. Adjust the weights to your case, then score your shortlist.

Follow seven steps to a shortlist:

  1. List your channels, languages, suppliers and ERP systems.
  2. Count SKUs and attributes today, and plan the count for three years ahead.
  3. Name the owner system of each data group with the Elogic Commerce Source of Truth Map (Table 5).
  4. Pick a weight profile in Table 9 and adjust the six weights.
  5. Score three tools from 0 to 10 with vendor pages and demos.
  6. Run a proof of concept on your hardest products: variants, images and translations.
  7. Check the connector for your storefront and ERP before you sign.

Elogic Commerce advises small, single-channel catalogs with rare changes to skip a PIM. A PIM also does not supply governance. Assign field owners, approval steps and publishing rules before the tool goes live.

If a platform change runs next to the PIM project, migrate the catalog in stages with rollback points. Read about ecommerce migration and use the ecommerce platform selector to choose the storefront. Compare storefront platforms in the best ecommerce platforms guide.
