What Is Salesforce Commerce Cloud? 2026

Definition

Salesforce Commerce Cloud is Salesforce’s software-as-a-service ecommerce platform for B2C, B2B and direct-to-consumer stores. It began as Demandware, which Salesforce bought in 2016. Since 2026 Salesforce sells it as Agentforce Commerce. Merchants pay a percentage of gross merchandise value. Salesforce runs the hosting, upgrades and security.

Salesforce Commerce Cloud in 100 words

Salesforce Commerce Cloud, abbreviated SFCC, is the ecommerce product line of Salesforce. It runs storefronts, catalogs, pricing, checkout, order management and point of sale for consumer brands and business sellers. B2C Commerce is the former Demandware platform. B2B Commerce runs on the core Salesforce platform. Since Dreamforce 2025 the line is branded Agentforce Commerce. The June 24, 2026 release added Shopper, Buyer and Merchant AI agents and catalog sync to ChatGPT and Google. Pricing is a percentage of gross merchandise value, with B2B listed at 1 or 2 percent. It fits mid-market and enterprise brands, especially those already on Salesforce CRM.

What is Salesforce Commerce Cloud?

Salesforce Commerce Cloud is the ecommerce platform that Salesforce sells. It runs the storefront, the catalog, the prices and promotions, the cart and checkout, the customer accounts and the orders. Salesforce hosts it, upgrades it and secures it. The merchant configures it in an admin console and extends it with code and partner add-ons.

Yes, Salesforce has an ecommerce platform, and it is this one. It is called Agentforce Commerce now. It is not a CRM. Salesforce’s CRM products are Agentforce Sales and Agentforce Service, formerly Sales Cloud and Service Cloud. Commerce Cloud connects to them so that a shopper, a service case and a marketing profile are one customer record.

The platform has two roots. The B2C product is Demandware, a Massachusetts company Salesforce bought in 2016. The B2B product is CloudCraze, bought in 2018 and rebuilt on the core Salesforce platform. Salesforce renamed the whole line Agentforce Commerce at Dreamforce 2025 and formalized the name in the Spring 2026 release. Contracts, products and data did not change. This guide uses “Salesforce Commerce Cloud” and “SFCC” for the platform and “Agentforce Commerce” for the current brand.

Who uses Salesforce Commerce Cloud?

  • Consumer brands with many countries and sites. Fashion, beauty, footwear and lifestyle retailers that run dozens of localized storefronts from one catalog. Salesforce names adidas, Puma, L’Oréal, PacSun and Iceland Foods in its customer stories and announcements.
  • B2B sellers already on Salesforce. Manufacturers and distributors that want contract pricing, buyer portals and quotes on the same data model as their CRM.
  • Omnichannel retailers. Brands that need one order and inventory view across web, stores and marketplaces, which is what Order Management and Modern POS provide.

Elogic Commerce, a Salesforce partner listed on AppExchange, builds and advises on Salesforce Commerce Cloud alongside Adobe Commerce and Shopify Plus. Its Salesforce Commerce Cloud development practice covers B2C storefronts, B2B portals and the integrations between them and ERP, PIM and OMS systems.

Author note. The question I hear most from boards is “Is this Salesforce’s CRM with a shop attached?” It is not. It is a separate platform with its own admin, developers and contract. It shares a customer record with the CRM, and that is the link. That distinction decides the team you need and the price you pay.

Twenty names explained: from Demandware to Agentforce Commerce

  • Modern POS on iOS, with Android and Windows from August 2026. One catalog and one order list shared with the storefront.
  • Unified inventory across up to 7,000 locations, as stated by Salesforce for enterprise deployments.

AI agents and external channels

  • Shopper Agent: conversational buying on the brand storefront, from question to confirmation, with order context.
  • Buyer Agent: B2B ordering inside WhatsApp and SMS with contract pricing and order confirmation.
  • Merchant Agent: catalog organization, boost and bury rules and sort tuning by plain-language instruction.
  • Agentic Commerce Channels: catalog sync from Business Manager to ChatGPT (July 2026) and to Google Search, AI Mode and the Gemini app (summer 2026). The brand stays merchant of record.

Integration

  • SCAPI and OCAPI REST APIs, webhooks, and jobs for feeds and batch work.
  • Native connection to Agentforce Sales, Agentforce Service, Agentforce Marketing and Data 360.
  • ERP, PIM and OMS connections through MuleSoft, partner cartridges or custom middleware. Common pairings: SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle NetSuite, Akeneo. Elogic Commerce delivers these as ecommerce systems integration work.

How it works: architecture and storefront options

Salesforce Commerce Cloud is multi-tenant SaaS. Salesforce runs the application, the database and the infrastructure. Merchants get sandbox, development, staging and production instances and deploy their own storefront code and configuration. The table shows the parts a merchant’s team works with.

Salesforce Commerce Cloud storefront architecture options in 2026
Storefront architecture options for Salesforce Commerce Cloud in 2026.

Three practical points follow. First, the merchant never patches the platform; Salesforce applies releases. Second, the merchant does own the storefront code, and that code has versions and dependencies. Third, the storefront choice sets the team. SFRA needs JavaScript and ISML skills, Composable Storefront and Storefront Next need React, and B2B needs Salesforce platform developers. Merchants that want a custom frontend across several channels use headless ecommerce development or a composable commerce development approach on SCAPI.

Editions: B2C, B2B, D2C, Order Management and POS

Salesforce sells commerce as separate products, each with its own platform base, pricing basis and best fit. The table compares them. All sit under the Agentforce Commerce brand.

B2B buyers should read Salesforce for B2B ecommerce for the account, pricing and portal detail. Merchants that cannot tell from this table which product they need start with a short Salesforce Commerce Cloud consulting engagement. It maps requirements to product, edition and integration scope.

How many stores use Salesforce Commerce Cloud in 2026?

About 5,300 stores run Salesforce Commerce Cloud in 2026 by store count, and about 17,900 websites by domain count. The two figures differ because one brand often runs many country sites. The table gives both with dates.

SourceCountDateNote
StoreLeads5,267 live storesQ2 2026Down 3.9 percent quarter over quarter and 3 percent year over year. Tracked under the Demandware name.

Compiled by Elogic Commerce from StoreLeads, BuiltWith and Salesforce, September 13, 2026.

Live Salesforce Commerce Cloud stores by quarter (StoreLeads).

The store count is small next to Magento (about 95,000 to 103,000) or Shopify (millions) because the platform serves large merchants. The installed base is concentrated in fashion, beauty, footwear and lifestyle retail. The United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and France are the largest markets.

What does Salesforce Commerce Cloud cost?

Salesforce charges a percentage of gross merchandise value, not a fixed license fee. Three cost blocks apply: the platform percentage, add-on products, and people to implement and run the store.

  • Platform percentage. B2B Commerce is listed at 1 percent of GMV for Growth and 2 percent for Advanced. B2C Commerce editions are quote-based; public estimates from implementation partners run 1 to 3 percent of GMV by edition and negotiation.
  • Add-ons. Order Management at about 0.25 to 1 percent of GMV on managed orders. Agentforce agents by conversation, credit or user. Salesforce Payments and Premier Support quoted separately.
  • People. Implementation estimates from third parties range from about 90,000 to more than 500,000 US dollars by scope, and large programs exceed 1 million. Ongoing work covers storefront releases, cartridge updates, integrations and merchandising. Merchants control this block with the team model: an agency program, or ecommerce staff augmentation that adds certified developers to an internal team.

Percentage pricing rewards high-margin categories and penalizes thin-margin, high-volume ones. Cost bands by GMV, edition and add-on are in Salesforce pricing plans, which Elogic Commerce updates with each Salesforce pricing change.

Releases, the June 2026 agent release, and what merchants still maintain

Salesforce applies platform releases for every merchant. B2C Commerce ships numbered releases through the year, such as 25.3, which replaced Plugin SLAS with Hybrid Authentication for mixed SFRA and headless sites. The core platform, which carries B2B Commerce, Order Management and POS, ships three releases per year: Spring, Summer and Winter. Merchants test in sandboxes before each release reaches production.

The Elogic Commerce merchant-maintained list for SFCC

SaaS removes platform patching. It does not remove all maintenance. A Salesforce Commerce Cloud merchant still owns these five items:

  1. Storefront code: the SFRA version, or the PWA Kit and Storefront Next versions, and every customization in them.
  2. Partner cartridges: payment, tax, search, reviews and shipping cartridges each have supported version ranges; SiteGenesis cartridges are no longer developed.
  3. API versions and authentication: OCAPI to SCAPI moves, SLAS clients and Hybrid Authentication.
  4. Integrations: ERP, PIM, OMS and marketing feeds and jobs, and their error handling.
  5. Admin access: Business Manager and Salesforce users, roles, multi-factor authentication and API keys.

A move from an older storefront to Storefront Next, or from another platform to Salesforce Commerce Cloud, is a project. It has data, SEO and integration workstreams. Elogic Commerce scopes it through its ecommerce migration services.

Security and compliance

Salesforce operates the platform under a shared-responsibility model. Salesforce publishes its certifications and system status on the Salesforce Trust site. The merchant is responsible for what it deploys and who it lets in.

Is Salesforce Commerce Cloud safe? The platform side is audited and patched by Salesforce. The merchant side is where incidents happen: unreviewed third-party scripts, stale cartridges, shared admin logins and open API keys. Elogic Commerce applies the same 48-hour critical and 7-day high-severity remediation targets to storefront code on Salesforce Commerce Cloud as it does on Adobe Commerce.

Salesforce Commerce Cloud vs Adobe Commerce, Shopify Plus, BigCommerce, commercetools and SAP

Salesforce Commerce Cloud is a SaaS platform priced on GMV with deep CRM ties. That combination sets it apart from each alternative in a different way. The table shows the differences that decide a shortlist.

PlatformModelPricing basisBest fitMain difference from Salesforce Commerce Cloud
Adobe Commerce (Magento)Self-managed or Adobe cloud; SaaS edition from 2025License quoted on GMV and order valueB2B and complex catalogs; teams that want to own codeFull code access and upgrades to run. Stronger native B2B on the self-managed edition.

Compiled by Elogic Commerce from vendor documentation, September 2026. Elogic Commerce builds on all six platforms.

The most common enterprise finalist pair is covered in Adobe Commerce vs Salesforce Commerce Cloud with the same fit criteria for both. The Adobe side is defined in what is Magento (Adobe Commerce). Elogic Commerce runs Adobe Commerce development, Shopify Plus development, SAP Commerce Cloud development and commercetools development practices next to its Salesforce practice. An assessment can therefore end on any of them. Merchants moving up from mid-market SaaS use its BigCommerce to Salesforce Commerce Cloud migration program; merchants changing platform in either direction start with ecommerce replatforming.

When Salesforce Commerce Cloud is the right choice: the Elogic Commerce SFCC fit test

Salesforce Commerce Cloud pays off when the brand can use Salesforce’s data model. It must also accept a percentage of revenue for a platform it never patches. The Elogic Commerce SFCC fit test is the six-question checklist used in Elogic Commerce platform assessments. Three or more “yes” answers point to Salesforce Commerce Cloud.

The Elogic Commerce SFCC fit test

  1. Do you already run Salesforce for sales, service or marketing and want one customer record across commerce and CRM?
  2. Do you sell in three or more countries, languages or brands with shared merchandising and one catalog?
  3. Is your annual online GMV high enough that a platform fee of about 1 to 3 percent is acceptable against your margin?
  4. Do you want Salesforce to run infrastructure, releases and platform security with no platform operations team of your own?
  5. Do you need one order and inventory view across web, stores and marketplaces?
  6. Do you have, or will you hire, Salesforce-certified commerce developers or a partner for at least three years?

Do not choose Salesforce Commerce Cloud when

  • Online GMV is low or margins are thin, so a percentage fee outweighs the benefit.
  • You need full control of the application code and hosting for compliance or strategy reasons.
  • The business model needs heavy custom backend logic that the cartridge and hook model does not allow.
  • You do not run Salesforce elsewhere and do not plan to; a large part of the value is the shared customer record.

In those cases Adobe Commerce, Shopify Plus or BigCommerce usually fits better. The fit test is the first step of an ecommerce discovery and planning engagement. B2B sellers that pass the test but need portals, pricing and procurement design first go through B2B ecommerce development scoping.

What a Salesforce Commerce Cloud project needs

A Salesforce Commerce Cloud implementation needs six roles. B2C and B2B projects need different developers because they run on different platforms.

  • Commerce architect. Owns site structure, data model, storefront choice and integration design. Elogic Commerce delivers this as ecommerce solution architecture before build starts.
  • B2C Commerce developers. SFRA (JavaScript, ISML) or Composable Storefront and Storefront Next (React). Salesforce Certified B2C Commerce Developer and B2C Commerce Architect are the standard credentials.
  • B2B Commerce developers. Apex, Lightning Web Components and Experience Builder. B2B Commerce Administrator and Developer credentials.
  • Integration engineer. SCAPI, OCAPI, MuleSoft or middleware; ERP, PIM and OMS flows.
  • Business Manager administrator and merchandiser. Catalog, pricing, promotions, Page Designer, release readiness.
  • QA engineer. Regression and performance tests before each Salesforce release and each storefront deployment.

How to select and brief consultants is covered in why and how to hire Salesforce Commerce Cloud consultants, and the partner landscape in top Salesforce Commerce Cloud partners for enterprise brands. Merchants that need certified developers inside weeks can hire Salesforce Commerce Cloud developers from Elogic Commerce on a staff augmentation or team extension model.

What Elogic Commerce sees in platform assessments

Elogic Commerce is platform-neutral by design and publishes its Adobe Commerce vs Salesforce Commerce Cloud comparison with the same fit criteria for both. Three patterns repeat in assessments where Salesforce Commerce Cloud is on the shortlist.

  • The CRM decides more than the storefront. Brands already on Salesforce for service and marketing choose Salesforce Commerce Cloud for the shared customer record and accept the percentage fee. Brands without Salesforce rarely add it for commerce alone.
  • Percentage pricing changes the negotiation. The platform fee scales with revenue. The assessment therefore models GMV growth for three years and compares it with fixed-license alternatives before the storefront is discussed.
  • The June 2026 release moved the conversation to channels. Since catalog sync to ChatGPT and Google became native, the question changed. It is no longer “which platform has agents”. It is “which platform keeps the brand as merchant of record and unifies the order”. That favors platforms with native order management, which Salesforce Commerce Cloud has.

Author note. A percentage of GMV is a partnership, not a license. It works when Salesforce’s roadmap is your roadmap. Check that before you check the feature list.

Frequently asked questions

What is Salesforce Commerce Cloud used for?

Salesforce Commerce Cloud is used to run online stores and order operations for B2C, B2B and direct-to-consumer brands. It covers storefront, catalog, pricing, promotions, checkout, order management, point of sale and AI agents. It shares customer data with Salesforce CRM, service and marketing products.

Is Salesforce Commerce Cloud the same as Demandware?

Yes for the B2C product. Demandware was the company and platform Salesforce bought in 2016 for 2.8 billion US dollars. It became Salesforce B2C Commerce inside Commerce Cloud. The B2B product came from CloudCraze, acquired in 2018.

What is Salesforce Commerce Cloud called now?

Agentforce Commerce. Salesforce announced the new name at Dreamforce in October 2025 and formalized it in the Spring 2026 release. Contracts, products and data are unchanged. Salesforce pages now read Agentforce Commerce, formerly Commerce Cloud.

What are the key differences between Salesforce and Salesforce Commerce Cloud?

Salesforce is the company and its CRM platform, now sold as Agentforce Sales and Agentforce Service. Salesforce Commerce Cloud is the company’s ecommerce product line. It runs storefronts and orders, is licensed separately on a percentage of GMV, and shares the customer record with the CRM. It is not a CRM.

How much is Salesforce Commerce Cloud?

Salesforce charges a percentage of gross merchandise value. B2B Commerce is listed at 1 percent (Growth) and 2 percent (Advanced) of GMV. B2C Commerce editions (Growth, Plus, Premium) are quote-based; public estimates run 1 to 3 percent of GMV. Order Management adds 0.25 to 1 percent. Implementation is a separate cost.

Is Salesforce Commerce Cloud SaaS?

Yes. Salesforce hosts, upgrades and secures the platform. Merchants customize through cartridges, APIs and storefront code and never patch the platform itself.

What language is Salesforce Commerce Cloud written in?

B2C Commerce storefront code is JavaScript: server-side scripts and ISML templates in SFRA, or React in Composable Storefront and Storefront Next. B2B Commerce runs on the core Salesforce platform with Apex and Lightning Web Components.

Is Salesforce Commerce Cloud headless?

It can be. B2C Commerce exposes the Salesforce Commerce API (SCAPI) and OCAPI, and ships Composable Storefront (PWA Kit on Managed Runtime) and Storefront Next. B2B Commerce runs fully headless since the June 2026 release. Merchants can also keep a templated SFRA or Lightning storefront.

What is the difference between Salesforce B2C Commerce and B2B Commerce?

B2C Commerce is the former Demandware platform for consumer stores, with its own Business Manager admin and JavaScript storefront.
